On March 3, 2025, the Department of Performing Arts at Istanbul Medeniyet University held a staged reading of VIRUS—a fugue, a play by Norwegian writer Fredrik Brattberg!
The play, translated into Turkish by our faculty member Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ferdi ÇETİN, was presented in the format of a staged reading under the direction of Lecturer Umut Barış TAŞDEMİR.
Research Assistant Kaan KABASAKALOĞLU and students Gülperi KARADEMİR, Berat BEYOĞLU, Ferhan Gülşah VARLIOĞLU, Berkan ÇETİN, Ayşenur ERMAN, and Sena GÜZEN performed as actors in the event.
Following the staged reading, Fredrik Brattberg led a workshop with department students on the structural dynamics of playwriting, the dramatic function of repetition, and the search for form in modern theatre.
VIRUS, which follows Brattberg’s distinctive structure based on repetition and variation, creates a deep sense of tension through its minimalist storytelling. As the ordinary moments of daily life enter into a loop, the narrative spreads like an unexpected virus. But is it possible to break this cycle?
