A Meaningful Performance at Istanbul Medeniyet University: The Play "Peace for Gaza" Was Staged
The theatrical production titled "Peace for Gaza," prepared by the Istanbul Medeniyet University Theater Club and directed by the Head of the Department of Performing Arts, Assoc.Prof. Rüstem MÜRSELĞLU, has met with the audience within the university framework. Following its premiere on Friday, May 8, the play was staged once again on Thursday, May 14, at the Âşık Paşa Conference Hall due to high interest. The event was attended by Vice Rector Prof.Dr. Yaşar BÜLBÜL, Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture Prof.Dr. Ubeydullah SEZİKLİ, and Secretary General Ali Ramazan TAK, alongside a large number of faculty members and students.
Characterized by a dramaturgically multi-layered structure, the play centers around the text-generation process of Fikret, a young writer and member of the theater club, and the simultaneously unfolding plotline. Guided by her professor's recommendations, Fikret shifts her focus to the Palestinian geography, bringing to the stage the journey of his fictional character, Tarık, who seeks peace in Gaza.
The production stands out for incorporating rich motifs that embody both the tangible and intangible heritage of the Turkish-Islamic world and Palestinian culture. Throughout the performance, lighting, sound, and visual designs were harmonized with contemporary theatrical techniques, conveying symbolic imagery to the audience.
We cordially congratulate the Head of the Department of Performing Arts, Assoc.Prof. Rüstem MÜRSELOĞLU, as well as all the student members of the Theater Club and the technical crew who contributed to this high-caliber production that brings together artistic and social awareness under the roof of Istanbul Medeniyet University. We commend them for their academic and artistic achievements and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
