At the 10th TRT Future Communicators Awards, organized by TRT this year, graduates of the Visual Communication Design Department at Istanbul Medeniyet University achieved remarkable success. The award ceremony took place on October 8, 2024, at Ankara's TRT Arı Studios and was broadcast live on TRT 2. Graduates received prestigious awards in two different categories.

The competition attracted a total of 2,618 entries and 1,702 works from 130 universities across the country. Awards in 12 categories were presented to the winning young communicators by TRT General Manager Mehmet Zahid Sobacı and Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun.

First Prize for the Documentary "Destar"

Graduates Rezzan Kanar and Zeynep Türk won first prize in their category for their documentary Destar, created under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Sevindi.

Kanar and Türk stated that they began working on Destar as part of the Advanced Filmmaking Techniques course. The documentary aims to accurately reflect Mevlana’s teachings and the whirling dervish tradition, a significant part of Turkish culture. It explores the spiritual journey of a dervish through the metaphor of the Destar and features interviews with dervishes, head dervishes, and sheikhs from the Ministry of Culture-affiliated Meydan Meşkleri Ensemble and the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble.

Double Success in the Podcast Category

In the Podcast category, Şevval Özel received the TRT Special Award for her graduation project How and Why, supervised by Prof. Dr. Özlem Oğuzhan and Lecturer Dr. Görkem Katmer. Meanwhile, Elif Erol, under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koray Sevindi, was a finalist with her graduation project Memories of Istanbul.

Özel explained that she designed How and Why as her graduation project to create an informative podcast by engaging six experts on six different topics of curiosity. After a long production process, her project was published on digital platforms, enabling her to compete as a finalist and travel to Ankara for the ceremony.
